You know that saying, "When it rains, it pours."? That is the perfect way to describe my life as of now. I got a letter in the mail from my college telling me that I stand as an alternate for my program in the fall. As an alternate I need to attend orientation (in about three weeks) with the following things completed:
- Up to date immunizations including proof of immunity to chicken pox
- CPR certification from a particular organization
- A clean background check
My parents haven't taken care of my records so I go into a doctors office to see if they have any idea what diseases I can guard off. To talk to a doctor I'm told I need to come in for a physical. Not a huge deal except that means a co-pay. Adam's summer allergies are starting up so we decide to make him an appointment too (yet another co-pay). My doctor tells me they can test for immunity but insurance won't cover it. My best bet is to call my high school and see if they know what shots I have had. It's a good thing I paid a co-pay to be told that I need to call my high school. {Insert annoyance here} Adam's walks out of his appointment with 6 prescriptions. Yes, I said 6!! The next day I drive to my high school which is a good 60 miles away. I talk to the counseling office and they say that they usually keep their records for 5 years after graduation. It's been 8 years since I left my Alma mater. Thanks to an angel working in the office, they were able to find me in the computer. I went back to the doctors office to be tested for chicken pox immunity and get the shots I missed out on when I was young. I can tell you now, I totally get why babies freak out when they get their shots. They are so much worse than getting blood drawn.
So on to CPR certification. I sign up online. The only classes offered are again 60 miles away and are only scheduled for the next week. Good thing I'm unemployed and can travel at a monents notice. The class costs $50.
Then I order my background check. (Another $50)
The same day I run to a dentist office. 5 years ago I had a root canal done. I take really good care of my teeth but I grew up in less than ideal circumstances leaving my teeth highly neglected. Anyway, so when this root canal was done my old dentist said that he thought it was weird that I only had 2 roots instead of the regular 3. Ummm, say what? Well now I'm paying the price for his stupidity. I do have 3 roots and he missed one. My gum is super swollen and ugly. My new dentist has referred me to an endodontist and he said that hopefully they can get the root. If not I will have to yank the whole thing out and replace it with an implant. Insurance usually doesn't cover implants. He gave me an antibiotic and wished me luck. Antibiotics are expensive.
That evening I took my puppy out and he had some definite runs if you know what I mean. Living in an apartment, I had to clean it up. It splattered and got all over my shirt. The pathetic part is when it happened I looked down and wished with all of my heart that it was baby poop.
So if I have been acting a little grouchy lately, this is my life. Though frustrating it does a great job keeping me entertained. (however I may need to start taking financial donations)

Yikes! I'm sorry things have been rough lately. I hope now that you've done all that work to be an alternate that someone decides to back out and you get their spot! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :-)
Not a fun day!! And yes, I am behind on reading your blog! I just thought it would be important (although too late now) to tell you that you DID HAVE CHICKEN POX!!! I know because you and Nicole were coming down with it when you visited us one day and you both exposed all of my kids!! LOL! Must have been in 1991 or 1992 when we were living in Einar and Ullas. Good times with all of the cousins sick...haha =)
