Let me give you an overview of what an approved adoptive couple needs to do to be matched with a birth mother. Once a enormous amount of paperwork is complete you have to check the website daily for available situations. If you are interested in a situation you call the agency to get a more in depth description of things. Then you have to decide if you are 100% committed. If you are, they will take your profile along with 7 others and present them to the birth mother. She then has as long as she wants to choose. We have been committed to several situations always getting the call that the birth mom chose a different family. Heartbreaking? yes but always expected. That is how it is with adoption. You can never go "all in".
Last Friday we received a call from our agency. Chris told us that the birth mom had narrowed it down to 2 families AND WE WERE ONE OF THEM!!!! She wanted to talk to both of us on the phone before making her decision. TALK ABOUT PRESSURE. The conference call started out very awkward but ended great. She said right then and then that she wanted us to be the family. She had made her decision and she didn't even want to talk to the other family.
We are so thrilled yet nervous. We are cautiously expecting July 16, 2013. Now we wait and we scramble to raise the money. We want THIS baby more than anything in the world so if you are able to please donate to our adoption fund so we can bring this little one home.
